Kyoquot Ripples
Kyoquot, BC
21 x 60 in.
Oil on canvas

Although much of our paddling trip to Kyoquot was on rough water and the camera was kept safely stowed, we did have a couple of calm spells when the ocean developed that amazing surface that breaks and moves in a gentle pattern. Although it was still rather overcast, some of the more intense blue of the sky overhead was picked up in the moving reflection. I tried to convey that sense of space and the long horizon over the water that is such a strong element of the view from a kayak!

“… the magic of water, an element which owing to its changefulness of form and mood and colour and to the vast range of its effects is ever the principal source of landscape beauty, and has like music a mysterious influence over the mind.”
