These paintings emerge from the images I collected with my camera and my memory during an extended visit to India. It is a country rich in colours, exotic details and complex dynamics – lots of fodder for the artist! I was continually fascinated by the layers of symbolism I found in that country, the rituals that permeate Indian life and the interplay of various social factions. One has the sense of gaining only a slight understanding of what is seen on the surface level of India – but the visual feast that the country provides is heady stuff for the visually inclined, and it has given me much pleasure to “revisit” India through my painting. |
