Paddling Home
Quadra Island, BC
24 x 36 in.
Oil on canvas

Paddling in to the shelter of our home island after a crossing on active water and rising waves always feels so good. It has been a good trip, but the wind is increasing and getting in to calmer water and the prospect of a gentle stretch to our home beach is a nice end to good times on the ocean.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
~John Masefield
